In Which Our Heroine Gets All Reflective n Shit

I got home from camping on Friday. Saturday the sky was dark, it rained all day and it was cold enough to warrant shutting windows. Sunday I walked and the asters were suddenly in bloom. They weren't when I left on Wednesday. And the little birch had some yellow leaves. It was all green when I left. This morning it was 42 degrees out when I woke up. I know fall doesn't officially start until September 23rd but here summer often ends very abruptly and that pisses me off. I love summer. I love the heat and the flowers but most of all, I love the light. The sun set at 7:32 last night. Here on the ridge it sets behind the hills even faster.

By Sunday, I was in a truly vile mood, mourning the loss of light and warmth. To make matters worse, I'm seriously allergic to yellow jackets (the ones that stung my mister last Thursday). Every year around this time they show up and start nesting in the mole holes in the lawn. Of course my mister blasted all the nests he could find, but I still have to be really careful out there this time of year. I felt like I'd been robbed of my garden as well.

People close to me know that I don't deal with winter well. Now all y'all know it too. I am prone to serious depression in winter. It doesn't happen every year, but I dread and fear the possibility. By yesterday I realized that I'd better seriously start thinking about all the things I do like about fall. So. The asters are pretty. It's easier to work in the garden, in spite of the bees. Fire pit fires. Hairy Monster is happier (not that he's not always ridiculously happy). I can do this. I'm ready.

Also, I have a new oven. And the apples are in. I know it still says they aren't on the main banner here, but those of you that took the time to read this fine print can order pies. The more patient among you know to wait till the Northern Spies are in.

PS: Jeff Scher captured everything I just said in pictures, and did a better job of it. And inspired me to write this. Click here to see the video that I can't figure out how to load.

Happy V-Day

Here's Jane talking about hers on live TV: http://perezhilton.com/2008-02-14-oops-7 Some background from Wiki: The Vagina Monologues is an Obie Award-winning episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the off-Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Center in 1996. Ensler originally starred in the production, playing all the various women who share their views about their vaginas with the audience; when she left the play it was recast with three celebrity monologists. The production has been staged internationally, and a television version featuring Ensler was produced by cable TV channel HBO. In 1998, Ensler launched V-Day, a global non profit that has raised over $50 million dollars for local anti-violence groups through benefits of "The Vagina Monologues."[1]
I know- it's not about the Barn, but if I so much as try to go in there, I'm gonna get killed by a falling, snow and ice-covered beam. Buy more pies and I won't have to blog about random crap! Better still, just hit that donate button so we don't have to bake.
Try to dream it, kids. This blog fulla pix and updates of the Actual Barn Restoration. *Sigh*
