Sunflower-to-be

This is what happens when the mister gets hold of the camera.

Amaranthus Alley

We had amaranth in the main perennial bed last year. It was awesome but really deserves a stand alone spot. Plus it kinda clashed with the bee balm, so this year, nine in a row with a row of giant (hopefully) sunflowers behind them. This area gets wicked hard sun all day and is probably the future home of a vegetable garden- after we lift yet more sod.

PS: They're all droopy and pissed off here because we just transplanted them the 5th. They had self-seeded all over the main bed- love the free seedlings! They're done drooping now and ready to start growing again.

Another Bed

Weeded, edged, seeded. Less lawn, more flowers! I think race cars would look good on the edge.

They didn't seem to appreciate the record rainfall this year. Hot and dry is better for them.

Seeds aren't fully formed yet. We'll leave them for the birds.

More Annuals

Sunflower and zinnias. I mostly stick to perennials, but gotta have these happy flowers. Pretty sure they both originated in Mexico. They thrive on hot weather so they're happy this week. And so am I.

Farmers' Market Bouquet

I know I have my own flowers to cut, but not like these ones! This guy says he has about 6 acres of cutting flowers and sells to florists. So jealous!
