Thursday Trophy Redux

From this post.

And from this post.

There were no winners though Karen came closest.  The top bouquet and the bottom one are the same.  My mistake was that I paired the top (dark) picture with a completely different bouquet.  I didn't realize it til long after I posted, so I wondered if any of you would pick up on it if I headed you in the right direction.

PS:  I knocked the sedum bouquet over last night.  Nothing broken but I freakin' hate when PMS gives me the clumsies/ dropsies.

Thursday Trophy

There's not been a whole lot of participation in the weekly Thursday Trophy contests in spite of the awesome prizes that have been awarded.  The mister and I have contemplated suspending the contest.  We still might.  We will do at least this last one but I must warn you, it's much harder than usual.  You will need serious thinking caps and very good eyes.

See, there's something wrong with one of this week's posts.  It's not something silly like a typo or a misspelling (though those are probably there too).  In comments here, name the post and describe what's wrong.

I will give you a hint:  It involves bouquets.  And one more- it happened after midnight on Saturday and before this post.  First person to find it gets this week's glorious Thursday Trophy, a true collector's item since it may be the last one ever!

Now here's a picture of a flamingo because I hate posts without pictures.

And this Thursday's Trophy goes to...

Winning!
Cy Nickel, with "Billy and Tommy now regret the day they wished to be taken from the orphanage."  Red Blogger was a very close second with her culturally accurate 'Where's Wally' reference.  But there can be only one Thursday Trophy, and Cy is this weeks winner!

Thursday Trophy and/or Do You Know Who These People Are?

Do you know this family?  I don't.  About ten years ago at Celtic Fest, I took a picture of them because I loved their creamsicle-colored shirts.  Best caption gets this week's Thursday Trophy (7/21/11).  Bonus points if you know the family.  If you ARE this family and want your picture taken off our website, or a copy of it, email us!

This Week's Thursday Trophy Goes to...

-karen. said... they'd be fun to stick on drunk friends when they pass out first.
bunch of those, throw on some handcuffs, & make up a great story about how they were arrested at some bar fight and now considered a fugitive.
this would also be fun if you have any drunks in your family. preferably ones that aren't already getting into bar fights.

Karen was only competing against herself cuz the rest of you punks didn't even TRY!  I haven't been cyber trophy shopping for weeks so I had to dig deep in the leftovers.  Pretend it says World's Best Karen or something like that, k?

Congrats and as usual, feel free to leave your acceptance speech in comments!

Last Call!

Later this afternoon, the mister and I will announce this week's awesome Thursday Trophy Winner!  You still have time.  Click HERE to try!

Next Week's Thursday Trophy

Ever think you have an original idea and then search the internets and find that someone else already had it ages ago?  So much for my temporary bruise tattoo idea.  I thought make-up artists used make-up to do bruises.  Guess not.  Anyway, I got to thinking about just what you could accomplish with these things.  They would definitely come in handy for calling in because of your "car accident" or "nasty tumble".

Next Thursday's much-coveted trophy will go to the commenter who comes up with the most creative way to use these.  Good luck!

Winner announced noonish, 7/14/11.

And This Week's Thursday Trophy Goes to...

Anonymous, whoever you are!  Congratulations to our incognito friend.  As usual, feel free to add your acceptance speech to comments.

His or her winning caption:

That's what I said. One dollar, and I'll let you hit my cat.

PS:  Are you the same Anonymous who wrote the Clarence story last week?
PSS:  We're not going to award a 2nd place trophy every week,  but if I did, 2nd place would definitely go to Sid.

Don't forget to enter to win a boring, 2-dimensional cyber prize!

Your Next Chance to Win!

This week's Thursday Trophy will go to the commenter who comes up with the best caption for this random picture that we found on the internets.  Have at it!

Winner will be announced at noon on Thursday, July 7th at noon.  Unless I'm shopping in which case, I'll do it as soon as I get back.  Thanks for playin'!

The True and Fairly Boring Story Behind the Thursday Trophy Pictures

A simple incident with a bizarre cast of characters:  First, I accidentally locked the keys in Teller's car when we went out to get smokes.  Almost immediately, a volunteer fireman came out of the beverage center and called the non-emergency police number for us.  Cool.  But Teller, realizing that it was getting near rush hour, decided to try for faster help.

First, she went into the store and asked for a coat hanger.  That guy didn't have one but directed her to the warehouse.  That's when the guy in the top photo comes in.  First Guy tried his level best to jimmy the lock and almost got it (while flirting with Teller).  Then the guy in the second photo came out of the store.  He seemed on friendly terms with First Guy and asked if he could take a turn trying.

Second Guy was from the UK, the result, he said, of  "misspent youth".  After about 20 minutes of this, the local police showed up and made quick work of it but not before Second Guy begged the cop for "just 30 more seconds... I'm so close!" (with a British accent, of course).  The guy coming out of the store in the third pic wasn't involved, just nosy.  Ditto a Kurt Vonnegut look-alike who was watching from his pick up truck the whole time and offering silly commentary.  I get the feeling not a lot of action happens in their town.

The story ends with a photo of Teller hugging the cop which I won't publish here due to privacy concerns.  I mean, she's already practically a rock star as far as I'm concerned.

The End.

And This Week's Thursday Trophy Goes to...

Drum
           roll
                  please...

Karen from Brainure!  Congratulations and please feel free to leave your acceptance speech in comments!

On behalf of the mister and myself, I will say that even with only two entrants, this was an extremely tough contest to judge.  In the end, we decided that "Anonymous," the other entrant, was somehow up to something.  I think it goes without saying that this contest was open to amateurs only.  However, since I can't prove anything I am going to do something a little unorthodox.

I hereby award "Anonymous" this second place trophy because I can't ignore the beauty of this bit of his/ her writing:  "She and Moses had met, ironically enough, at an AA meeting in Tallahassee. The attraction was so immediate and hard that they fell off the wagon together and into Kelly's bed."
Again, congratulations to both of you and may your pens never run out of ink!  Now someone please get me a tissue.

PS:  Click here if you'd like to read the winning entries.
PSS:  "Anonymous," I think you should out yourself.  Are you the crazy bunny lover?

Only 4.5 Hours Left! (A bit more than that, as it turns out).

It's not too late to try for a shot at this week's Thursday Trophy!  So far, we've only got 2 entries.  Oh, and I just remembered something.  I have a bunch of regular errands today plus I gotta hit the thrift shops for lampshades.  I hereby extend the contest till I get home.  Stay tuned...

Naked lamp is unacceptable.

Do you want this week's Thursday Trophy?

Last week's trophy was awarded to the engineer for his active participation here.  This week's will be a little different:  There is a story here, in pictures (see above).  In order to win, you must make up the words that fit the pictures.  Put your story in the comment section by noon on Thursday, June 30th.  You may enter more than one story.

At noon on Thursday, a panel of unbiased independent judges the mister and I will choose a winner.  I will announce the winner (and tell you what really happened) in a post Thursday afternoon.  Keep in mind that this is just a friendly little contest* and that the "award" is nothing more than a 2-dimensional cyber trophy.

*Let there be bloodshed!

This Week's Thursday Trophy Goes to...

I'ma tell you what.  I like comments, that's what.  I go to other people's blogs and at the end of their posts, it says shit like "436 comments," followed by, "Would you like to add a comment?"  Well, no, I would not.  Who will even see it at that point?

I don't want that many comments, but SOME would be nice, lurkers.  I know you're here.  Fess up.  If you fess up and comment now and again, you might win one of these:

Snazzy, innit?  I mean, I know it's just a picture of a trophy and not the real thing, but still.  Who doesn't like to WIN?

And today's winner is... (drumroll please)...  The Engineer!  Congrats!  Feel free to leave your speech in the comments section.  Thank you.

PS:  You guys aren't gonna let him win it every week, are you?
